Dairy Queen:

Dairy Queen Owner Values CSB's Friendly Customer Service
As the busy season begins for Danelle Orr, who's owned Clarkston Dairy Queen on Ortonville Road since December of 2001, the most important facet of her business will be customer service. This spring Danelle and her employees will serve from 200 to 400 customers per day. When school is out for the summer and Clarkston Dairy Queen is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., that number will increase to over 1,000 customers per day. In addition to indi-vidual customers, kids from the SCAMP program and summer sports team members will drop by. And while Danelle and her employees are serving up hundreds of famous DQ treats and meals like bacon double cheeseburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches and chicken salads, the focus will still be on customer service.

And excellent, friendly service is what keeps her a happy customer at Clarkston State Bank. Danelle chose CSB when she bought the Dairy Queen because her parents, Dennis and Sandra Atherton are satisfied CSB customers. But being connected to a local bank and one with friendly employ-ees is very important to her. "I go down to the Main Office (at 15 S. Main Street) every two or three days to make my deposits and the employees all know me. Even when I go to the Farmer Jack branch (at White Lake and Dixie) they know who I am," says Danelle.

Before she bought the Dairy Queen, Danelle worked for nine years as a customer service representative in the parts department at the Ford Rouge Plant. "It was my job to make sure everything ran smoothly in a very volatile business. I understand the importance of customer service and stress it over and over to my employees. I also have two excellent managers, Kandi Burr and Tovah Bazely, who stress the value of customer service to all of our employees, too," says Danelle.

Besides a deposit relationship with CSB, Danelle was also pre-approved for a line of credit when she bought the Clarkston Dairy Queen. "The building was dirty and had to be thoroughly cleaned," she says. "We also completely remodeled it and brought in new equipment so we could serve our custom-ers faster." Danelle says she hasn't had to use the line of credit yet, but with regular equipment and building repairs, and other surprises, she's glad she has the back-up.

Brad Nicholson, CSB Assistant Vice President, Commercial Lending, says a business line of credit is perfect for business customers who need to purchase equipment or make building improvements. "We're happy to have Danelle and Clarkston Dairy Queen as customers. We're always here if they need us."
