"Personal service is what it takes to stand out"
When you've had a long-term relationship with a bank like Dale Verhey of Clarkston Auto Body and Towing had with his former bank, sometimes it's tough to make a change. But after his bank's customer service declined following mergers, Dale decided to make the move to Clarkston State Bank. "I was tired of being a number," says Dale. "They made me so mad. I had been in business with them since we opened in 1976, and I got tired of the lack of personal service."
Clarkston Auto Body and Towing is a family business which prides itself on personal service. The original location is at 6470 Sashabaw Road south of Waldon, and Clarkston Auto Body II, opened in 1996, is located at 5475 Dixie Highway.
"I stress personal service in our business and I want to be treated the same way. Personal service is what it takes to stand out," says Dale. Dale started the business with his father, Paul, who retired in 1990, and Dale's wife Carol works part-time in the office. The couple's son, Nick, a senior at Brandon High School, has worked part-time through the auto body program at Oakland Technical Center, Northwest Campus, and will join his family full-time when he graduates. Carol says he wants to work for awhile before taking college business classes.
Dale switched to CSB in the fall of 2000, following a sales call from Angela Logan, the manager of CSB's two Farmer Jack branches. "The first time I visited Clarkston Auto Body, I noticed a display of 'thank-you' letters on their office wall. It was very impressive," says Angela. "I talked to Dale about the importance of customer service at CSB." Since then, Dale has switched over his company's business accounts, the family's personal accounts, and has a mortgage and two business lines of credit with CSB. Even Nick has a loan with CSB. "We love Angie," says Carol.
"We have the whole family," jokes Angela. "Their workers come here to cash their checks, so we've also built up relationships with their employees." Dale says, "I can pick up the phone anytime and talk to Angie. You can call the Main Branch and Dawn (CSB President and CEO Dawn Horner) will answer the phone the president of the bank. And her desk is right out in front. That doesn't happen very often."
